The best photos I could manage from the back of a crowd watching a group of breakers at Bumbershoot 2011. In the first photo, the blur is a dude doing a flip over the “volunteers” on the ground. In the last photo a kid asked them to show him some moves. They were very eager to show him and great teachers. I was so lucky I caught them as I was just walking by and had time to stop. One of the reasons Bumbershoot was extra special last year.

Seattle Food Adventure Part IV: Sweet Iron 2/12/2012 (breakfast).
Banana Brûlée with Caramel Sauce Waffle.
Strawberry and Whipped Cream Liege Waffle.
Best waffles I’ve ever had. Hands down. I want to learn how to make liege waffles at home. It will be hard to visit Seattle from now on without stopping here for a waffle.

Seattle Food Adventure Part III: Mistral Kitchen 2/11/2012.
We had the six course tasting menu. They presented us with a list of ingredients and asked us if we had any favourites or any to avoid. We favourited the pork belly and asked them to not serve us lamb.

Seattle Food Adventure Part II: Local 360 2/11/2012 (brunch).
The restaurant’s dining room.
My local (Portland, Oregon) Smith Teamaker tea.
My husband had the Fried Chicken and Waffle. I had the Scramble of the Day which was smoked salmon and caramelized onions which came with the most divine biscuit in memory. I could have eaten two dozen of those biscuits.
The restaurant’s mandate is providing food that comes from within a 360 mile radius of it’s Seattle location whenever possible. It’s a concept that is central to the evolution towards sustainability that is needed in our culture so on concept alone, we will go back. But because it is located in a colder, more rainy climate, I especially look forward to returning in the summer when the local produce will be at its best (including the berries I so love at brunch).

Seattle Food Adventure Part I: Dahlia Lounge 2/10/2012.
An Amuse Bouche.
Valentines Weekend special Seafood Platter with dungeness crabs legs, lovely Gulf prawns, a tuna tartar and oysters.
Alaskan Coho Salmon with parsnip puree, escarole with bacon, oregon coast black truffle.
My husband had the short rib for his main and sorbet for dessert. I had the creme caramel for dessert which was the most divine creme anything I’ve ever had.
Excellent and exciting food, kind and friendly service and a lovely, lantern-filled dining room. We will go back.
